SLUGGERS CO-ED SOFTBALL - Place 2nd in Championship Game

Hey Sluggers!

We had a fun Tournament Series tonight! We played a few people at new positions, but it helped us play solid defense in our Semi-Final play-off match-up with Team Danner. We took the lead 6-2 after the first inning and never looked back. A LOT of DOUBLE plays highlighted our Defense (Joe was in the “zone” at SS), and our scoring machine belted out a lot of runs (Josh had an “Over the Fence” Grand Slam).

Semi-Final Game Score: Sluggers 17, Team Danner 9.

The Championship Game was against a team that we had a come from behind “Tie” in our first match-up, and a victory for us with a late inning rally in our second game with them. Team Mora was competitive with us all season, sharing the best record in the Division with them for most of the season until we won the final regular season game last week to give us the # 1 ranking into the play-offs and half the league award…and they proved to be just as competitive tonight. We took the early lead 5-1 after the first inning, but their 8 run second inning had us playing catch-up for the rest of the game. We were behind them by 1 run after the third inning, 4 runs going into the ninth. After our 2 previous games with them I never lost faith on our team to come from behind, but we just fell short in the bottom of the ninth.

Championship Game Final Score: Sluggers 15, Team Mora 20.

F.Y.I. If we didn’t have the “1-up” rule on “Over-the-Fence” Home Runs, I think we may have tied if not actually beat them tonight J

Happy Holidays!
Coach Ed

P.S. I’ll let you all know when our league award money comes in to figure out what you all want to do with it. Scott had mentioned having a Team Photo that we can put on a plaque too which would be nice to hang up at work. I would like to get reimbursed for one unpaid jersey if you all don’t mind too. Drinks perhaps? We’ll figure it out soon. Enjoy the Holidays!

SLUGGERS CO-ED SOFTBALL - Clinch #1 Seed in the Play-offs with the Best Record in the Division!

Congrats Team! We clinched the # 1 seed for the play-offs with the best record in the division, and earned 50% of the league award!

We had a very SOLID DEFENSE tonight and had a late inning 5 run rally that clinched the victory for us. We had aggressive base running tonight and had to earn just about every run. Great hustle and heads up plays, especially getting that base runner out in a pickle between 1st and 2nd base. The final score was Sluggers: 13, Team Lopez 9.

My Rambo #1 award for the game goes to Miranda, who as a base runner had the ball hit her in the back while running to third, fell down, got up in pain and ran into home as part of that 2-out 5 run rally. My Rambo #2 award goes to Sylvia who took a line drive into her leg while standing on third base. Sylvia took the hit with a smile and played the rest of the game (but I think I now owe her some jewelry J ). My Voodoo Superstitious Award goes to Josh for wearing his summer shorts and T-shirt that he wore from last season’s Championship season to reverse the losing streak!

But we are not finished yet. We are the # 1 seed going into the semi-final tournament game next week at 7:45pm. I suspect our opponent will be Team Danner since it looked like Team Norcross defeated Team Mora in the game before ours. Norcross and Mora will meet again next week in the other 6:30pm semi-final match-up. The winner of both semi-final games will play each other at 9:00pm that same night.

Congratulations to Eric for winning the HR (and Over the Fence) HR Race for the regular season with 7 HRs (all over the fence)! I think Kacey will give you a run for the money next season!
