Congrats Sluggers! We are the Champions of the Lower Division Softball Co-Ed Sunday League!
Tournament Play opened up with our semi-final game against Team Meyers. This team defeated us 22-10 earlier in the season, so it was up to us to have a solid defense and high scoring offense to defeat this team. No problemo, our team played solid defense and had great back-up plays to get advancing runners out. Brad was in the zone going 4-4 with HR to lead the team on to the victory. The ladies bats were hot for the play-offs. It was an easy victory for us.

The next game played to determine who would meet us in the Championship was Team Mayfield against Team Suetos. Team Mayfield easily won 27-17 to advanced to play in the Finale. We easily defeated this team earlier in the season, but this game would prove to be a close one.
The Championship Game against Team Mayfield opened up with the Sluggers exploding with an offensive blitz going ahead 12-0 after the first 2 innings. By the end of the fifth, team Mayfield was beginning to chip away at our lead, with the Sluggers still ahead 17-8. By the end of the ninth though, the score was Sluggers 18, Mayfield 13. A 5 run lead, but not for long. Similar to the Men’s Championship Game, this became a nail biter. Batting in the top of the ninth, Team Mayfield scored 3 runs and then loaded the bases with 2 outs. A single would likely tie the game, a hit for extra bases would put Mayfield ahead. But no, a pop-up to centerfield for the last out! Sluggers Win the Championship! Final Score: Sluggers 18, Mayfield 16.
It has been a long and tough season, with many players contributing to a very successful season. We came on strong the second half of the season, going 6-1-1 and defeated many higher ranked opponents (including # 1 ranked Hammond #2) on our way to winning the Championship Game. I like to thank everyone that played and supported our team (family, friends and pets) to make this a very enjoyable season. I look forward to next season with many returning players and a few new additions. Heal those sore muscles during the off season and talk to your agents to renegotiate your contracts ;) We should start up again either late August or early September. I’ll let you all know.
