SLUGGERS MENS SOFTBALL - BACK-2-BACK CHAMPS!

By winning last Wednesday's game against Team Mesa by a score of 24-15, the Sluggers entered tournament play tonight as the # 1 seed with a record of 9-3. Their first game was against # 4 seed Dankberg. A rally in the third inning put the Sluggers ahead early in the game, and they never looked back winning the game 15-8 and earning a berth into the Championship game later that night against the same team that they defeated last week...but this was a different Team Mesa tonight!

The Championship was a nail-biter and the most exciting game this season. Team Mesa quickly took the lead 7-3 by the middle of the game. The Sluggers rallied late in the game and lead by 4 runs in the top of the 7th (last inning in regulation play). Team Mesa scored 4 in that inning to tie the game at 15-15 and leave the Sluggers to their last chance to win the game with their last set of at-bats. A walk to Todd and a base hit by Coach Nick put runners at second and first. A ground out to the first baseman by Ed advanced the runners to third and second. Team Mesa chose to walk Joe Russo to load the bases, bring the outfield in, and go for the double play...

Thom Terrazas at-bat...

It's a hit! Over the center fielder's head! Grand Slam to win the game! SLUGGERS WIN BACK-2-BACK CHAMPIONSHIPS!

SLUGGERS CO-ED SOFTBALL - We're Back In The Play-off Hunt!

Great win tonight! The team displayed great character and wouldn’t give up the game by scoring 3 runs in the top of the ninth to lead the game by one run, and then shutting them down in the ninth. Final score was 14-13.

I also want to welcome Tristan and Josh for coming out and joining our team. We picked them up from Team Lora and they have a few more players (2 girls and another guy) that hopefully will be interested in helping us make that play-off run. They had critical hits in the game and made outstanding plays in left and center fields.

Lou gets my game ball tonight! He hit a home run and scored the winning run in the ninth inning. He was even playing hurt defensively while contributing to the team’s defensive shut-out to our opponents for the last three innings. The whole team had key hits when it mattered and Chris had a home run for the night! Congrats team!

Looking ahead, that leaves our record at 4-4, probably tied with the same record with the next two teams that we play (Suetos (4-3) played Watson (6-1) tonight, so they probably are now 4-4) and (Mayfield (4-3) played Meyers (4-3) so one of those teams is probably 4-4 – hopefully Mayfield). The next two games against Suetos and then Mayfield are important for us since we may need the tie-breaker win over them to make the play-offs if we all have the same division record at the end of the season.

Our next game is on Sunday, June 25th at 7:45pm (Field #1) in 3 weeks. Ladies, enjoy the time off. For the guys, good luck winning this Wednesday’s Men’s softball game to secure the best record in the division and 50% of the league award. That will also place us as the #1 seed going into the play-offs the following Wednesday

Best,
Coach Ed
