SOE Sluggers Co-Ed Team Earn a Play-Off Berth!

Congrats Team! We Win! Welcome to the Play-offs!

This was our most important game of the regular season and most dramatic rose ceremony ever! You all didn't disappoint and showed up to play an outstanding game!

I brought the "lucky charm" green rally cap, and we posted our 4th victory in-a-row! Our bats we're blazing tonight, scoring 30 runs (franchise record) and our outstanding defense had it's first "shut-out" in 5 seasons!

Here's some of the highlights (After last week, I know I'm getting alzheimer's so bear with me :) )

Offense:

Euni had her first Home Run "Over the Fence" in the first inning! Unfortunately, our next 9 batters (guys and girls) also had OTF HR's, but they only counted as "singles" due to the 1-up rule.

Chris went 5-for-5, but "broke" his big toe when he did a triple sommer sault slide into third base in the second inning going for a triple. He was a trouper though, and played the rest of the game with his broken toe, broken finger, bad back, and torn rotator cuff. What an Awesome Guy!

Vanessa had her first HR of the season, when she hit the ball to the third baseman, but out ran the throw to first base by running around all of the bases before the ball ever made it to first base. "Man she's FAST!" commented our opponent's third baseman.

Defense:

We had our first triple play in 5 seasons, when we had Leila catch the ball for an out in RF, throw a one hopper to home plate to Bianca to nail the base runner tagging up at third base. The third out was made when Bianca threw the ball to Kacey at second base who tagged the base runner near second base who was laughing on the ground hysterically.

We had a spectacular catch by Ben and an assist by Brad, when Brad threw Ben higher than the top of the fence to "rob" a potential OTF HR! Unfortunately, Ben did sprain his ankle when he fell down more than 30 feet and Brad didn't catch him. "Rub some dirt in it," Ben!

Injury Report:

Kacey once again hit Coach Ed when he pitched to her and she hit a line drive into his bad groin. Fortunately, our scorekeeper, Sylvia was there to hold the ice pack on his injured inner leg while Coach Ed was carried off of the field. He did some "acting" though while lying on the pitcher's mound, struggling in pain to delay the game for 30 minutes while the two teams went to the store for an ice pack and a case of beer. Time expired after 4 innings and the delayed game. He's on the DL again for another 2-3 weeks, but we expect a quicker recovery in a couple of days after a massage and a day off of golf.

OK, maybe that's not quite how it happened :). Team Cardiel only showed up with 6 people (4 girls and 2 guys), and then only one more guy showed up after 15 minutes. They wanted to borrow one more player from us, but they still would have been 2 guys short to avoid the forfeit...so we Won! We also take over third place in the division from Team Cardiel by half a game and earned a play-off berth! Congrats Team!

Best,
Coach Ed

P.S. We have our last regular season game next Monday (at 6:30pm), and then the play-offs on Monday, June 16. We will either play in the 6:30pm or 7:45pm semi-final game that day (it will depend if we are the 4th or 3rd ranked team after next week's games). We if win the semi-final game, we'll play our second game of the night, the Championship Game, at 9pm.

THE SOE SLUGGERS MENS SOFTBALL TEAM ARE CHAMPIONS AGAIN! THIRD MENS SOFTBALL TITLE IN 3 YEARS!!!

It was a wild game and strange ending to it. Thanks go out to all of the fans that supported us and made it out to our games last night and during the season!

* * * * * * *
Here's the Quick Highlights:
* * * * * * *

In the semi-final game, we took an early lead, but Team Cooter was only trailing us by 3 runs most of the game. We switched pitchers from Ed (Peavy) to Scott (Hoffman), and he shut them down. We easily won the semi-final game at that point, but the Championship game would prove to be quite exciting with the lead going back and forth.

In the Championship Game, Team Marx was our opponent, who actually defeated us for our only loss of the season in a very close game last week. This time around, Marx quickly scored 6 runs in the top of the 1st inning, but we answered the call and scored 8 runs of our own in the bottom of the 1st. The lead kept exchanging hands throughout the game, until we finally took a 3 run lead going into the top of the 7th inning (last inning). Team Marx got hot again, scoring 5 runs to take the lead by 2. We would need to score at least 2 runs in the bottom half of the last inning of the game for any chance of continuing the game into an extra inning.

Satao leads off the bottom of the inning, with a line drive single. With one out, John hits a single up the middle moving Satao to third. Ed hits a line drive to RF to score Satao. Sluggers are now only trailing by one run. Chris hits a short fly to RF to score John for our tying run!

With two outs, Scott is at the plate...he hits a line drive up the middle to "OUCH"...the ball hits Chris leaving second base for the final out of the inning (tease him when you can). The score is TIED...are we going into an extra inning?

The managers of both teams converse with the umpire of the game near home plate. Time has "expired," the game is called "complete," and the score reverts back to the 6th inning due to the "tie" after 7 complete innings, so...WE WIN!

THE SOE SLUGGERS ARE CHAMPS! OUR SOE SLUGGERS MEN'S 3RD CHAMPIONSHIP IN THREE YEARS!

CONGRATS GUYS!
